Andrea Gelzer is the senior vice president medical affairs at AmeriHealth Caritas, where she also has served as the corporate chief medical officer for more than seven years. She has been responsible for the development of the company’s integrated care management model, deployed new approaches to alternative/value-based payment, as well as innovative population health management strategies for vulnerable populations, and serves as the key clinical spokesperson and policy advocate for the company. Prior to AmeriHealth Caritas, Dr. Gelzer was the chief medical officer for Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan, served in multiple roles including senior vice president of clinical public affairs at Cigna Corporation, and for 14 years worked in private practice in Internal Medicine. She is the Board Chair of HealthShare Exchange, Philadelphia’s regional health information exchange. She is a former Commissioner for CCHIT and was an incorporator and member of the executive board of eHealthCT. Dr. Gelzer earned her undergraduate degree from Tufts University, doctor of medicine from St. George’s University, and master’s degree in preventive medicine/administrative medicine at the University of Wisconsin Madison. She is a board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in clinical informatics.
